Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Niger State under the aegies of Concerned Nigerlites Forum have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to as a matter urgency address the nation to avert the nationwide planned protest.
In a joint media conference in Minna, the leader of the group, Abduljalil Alhaji Yahaya said it became necessary for government to take quick steps to address the pressing challenges of hunger and hardship being faced by citizens.
Yahaya said they have resolved to boycott the protest in the state but government needs to do the needful to avert the protest.
The coalition appreciated the steps taken by Farmers Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago especially the release of 50 metric tons of grains to be sold to citizens at subsidized rate, calling on other state government to emulate the Niger State Government.
While acknowledging the security challenges that have continued to ravaged farming communities in Munya, Shiroro and Rafi LGAs, the group said more steps to taken to create enabling environment for citizens to survive.
“We understand the hardship, killings, kidnappings, fear and difficulty that has bedeviled some parts of the state especially Shiroro, Munya, Rafi, Mariga, Paikoro, Lapai, Mashegu and other LGAs and efforts to curtail the challenges but we want to reiterate that safety and well-being of citizens is very important”, Yahaya said.
