Nineteen escaped Inmates from Suleja Federal Correctional Custody have been recaptured back to the facility after their escape from Custody during a torrential downpour that fell down the fence of the facility.
The Suleja Federal Correctional center fence was destroyed as a result of heavy wind that followed with torrential downpour which led to the escape of over one hundred and eighteen inmates penultimate Wednesday.
As a result of the escape of the inmates mostly awaiting trial at the Suleja Federal correctional center.
The Minister of Interior Mr Olubumi Tunji Ojo paid on the spot visit to the facility to assess the level of damage on the facility.
During the Minister visit, he directed the controller general of the NIS CG Ahmed Jafaru for the immediate repairs of the correctional facility.
Speaking in a telephone interview with Journalists, the head of Public Relation unit of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NIS) Mallam Danlami Abubakar Umar ACC disclosed that sofar Nineteen of the Inmates have been recaptured back to the facility while a combined teams of other sister agencies are on the trailer of the remaining inmates.
Already, he explained that special squads of the service have been deployed to trail the remaining escaped inmates so as to recapture them back to the facility.
” Our special squads have been spread out to trial them in order to bring them back to the custodial facility.Our Other sister agencies are also on the highways to assist us to recapture them back to the facility” he disclosed.
He stated that heavily armed Security Operatives have been placed on red alerts to safeguard the Suleja FederalCorrectional facility to ensure the security of the inmates.
It was gathered that all the correctional facilities across Niger state have been fortified by combined teams of heavily armed Security Operatives to ensure the safety of the facilities.
Danlami Abubakar assured that the fleeing inmates will be recapture with the frantic joint efforts of the security operatives that have been put in place adding that ” we have launched a total onslaught that will recapture them back to the custody”
However, Suleja Federal Medium Security Custodial center which is under the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command housed most of the inmates standing trial in Abuja courts
with other inmates from Niger State courts.
