Acting President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Professor Emmanuel S. Dandaura, has praised Nigerian football legend Segun Odegbami for his extensive community empowerment initiatives.
During a visit to the Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy in Wasimi, Ogun State, on Thursday, 27th February 2025, Dandaura led a delegation of PR professionals, business leaders, and NGO representatives attending the first Ogun Public Relations Forum and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards, organised by AS +A Communications Limited. The team also visited Eagle 7 Sports FM Station and Bamboo Lounge, both owned by Odegbami.
Professor Dandaura described the football icon’s efforts including interest-free loans for women, rural electrification, and scholarships for indigent students as a model for CSR, urging Nigerian brands to follow his example.
The Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy, which offers a unique 50/50 academic and sports curriculum, has secured scholarships for 90% of its students in the United States over the past 17 years, with Indian institutions now also offering placements.
Set atop Wasimi Hill, the academy provides a serene learning environment.
Dandaura called on the government, philanthropists, and corporate bodies to support the school with improved infrastructure, including renewable energy, water, and road networks.
The visit highlighted the impact of CSR in national development and celebrated Odegbami’s dedication to youth empowerment through education and sports.
He added that the NIPR shall always promote the activities of individuals and organisations adding significant value to society.
