The Nigerian Public Relations Week 2025 in Uyo showcased a groundbreaking e-voting system for electing new council members.
This online method, following successful accreditation, demonstrated a viable and modern approach to elections.
During the Annual General Meeting (AGM), Dr. Ike Neliaku and Professor Emmanuel Dandaura were overwhelmingly re-elected to lead the NIPR for another two-year term.
Their return, a highlight of the NPRW, coincided with the election of new council members: Mrs. Comfort Nwankwo (Lagos), Olusegun McMedal (Lagos past Chairman), Mr. Akin Agbejule (Niger), Mrs. Olubunmi Adedoyin Badejo (FCT), Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha (Anambra), Mallam Bashir Adamu Chedi, Dr. Saudat Salah Abdubaqi (Kwara), Comrade Ini Ememobong (Akwa Ibom), Malam Kabir Ali Kobir (Bauchi), Pastor Paulinus Enyidah Nsirim (Rivers), Professor Sarah Benjamin Lwahas (Plateau), Mr. Adaramola Temitope (Ogun State), Dr. Adewale Oladipo Oyekanmi (Osun), Chief Patrick Ogoegbunem Uka (Delta), and Sajoh Ahmed Ibrahim (Adamawa).
Despite isolated network issues, the election was undeniably fair, credible, and free from the usual stresses of manual voting.
The NIPR’s successful implementation of e-voting provides a clear, secure, and convenient template for Nigeria to adopt for national elections, allowing citizens to participate from anywhere.
