The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Niger State Council, has called on the Niger State Government to prioritize the prompt payment of workers’ salaries across all categories.
This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of an Emergency State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Labour House, IBB Way, Minna.
According to the communiqué, the Council appreciated the developmental strides of the state government but urged the Ministry of Finance and all relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure that salaries are paid as and when due.
The communiqué further stated that the SEC unanimously endorsed the current leadership of the NLC under Comrade Idrees Abdulkarrem Lafene and his team to continue leading the affairs of the union until the end of their tenure.
It also announced a change in the position of Acting Secretary, resolving that Comrade Salihu Mohammed Rijau should step aside and be replaced by Comrade Maria Musa, the ex-officio member, in line with constitutional provisions.
“The SEC strongly condemns the action of the Acting Secretary in writing a letter to the National Headquarters without the consent of either the State Administrative Council (SAC) or the SEC,” the communiqué added, stressing that the Council disassociates itself from the said correspondence.
The communiqué concluded with a call on civil servants to remain committed to their duties and support the NLC leadership and the state government in order to promote productivity and industrial harmony.
