The General Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, National Headquarters, Elder Actor Zal has appealed to the Niger state Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago to review pension payment rates of Pensioners in the state.
The General Secretary, made the appeal in a document addressed to the Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, dated 27th of August 2024 and made available to Journalists in Minna the capital city of Niger state.
The statement reads, “Nigeria Union of Pensioners, would appreciate your consideration, approval and implementation of the circular with reference number SWC/S/04//S.542/1/449 on the review of Pension rates and that of the public service by the national salaries, income and wages commission.”
Elder Zal also appealed to the Governor to consider the pensioners while during the implementation of the ₦70, 000 national minimum wage to workers in the state.
He said “the government should pay them as approved by the federal government, taking into consideration that they had served the state Meritoriously during their service years.”
The General Secretary further said federal government on it’s part have complied and has approved the review and implementation of pension rates for federal pensioners under the old pension scheme base on deferent salary structure.
He therefore drew the attention of the governor, on the discussion on the approved ₦70, 000 national minimum wage as approved for workers by the federal government which pensioners are also qualified to benefit from.
“In line with section 173 (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I hereby convey to you approval for the implementation of new pension rates for pensioners under consolidated salary structure” Elder Zal argued.
