No fewer than 7,000 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) supporters in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Receiving the decamped politicians on behalf of the Kebbi State Governor on Monday at Local Government Secretariat, the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru assured them that the present administration under the able leadership of Comrade Dr Nasir Idris was ready to carry them along.
While assuring the new members of equal treatment, the chairman said the gathering was aimed at streamlining the party structure and ensure sanity in the state’s political space.
Kan-Zuru appealed to the people of the area to rally round the present administration by supporting its mission and vision for effective delivery of dividends of democracy.
He reminded the people of the achievements recorded so far by the present government, saying that Kauran Gwandu has constructed roads, constructed schools as well as health care centres across the state among other developmental projects.
Speaking, the Hon. Member, Kebbi State House of Assembly, representing Arewa State Constituency, Hon. Nura Kangiwa told the the governor that people of Arewa LG have already endorsed him for his second term bid.
“We have finally and unanimously agreed that our 2027 votes are for you and nobody deserves to occupy the Government House by 2027 than you, In sh Allah,” he said.
On his part, the Chairman Governing Board of College of Education (COE), Argungu, Alhaji Hassan Kangiwa thanked the governor for supporting their people and providing them with projects that have direct bearing to the lives of common people.
In his speech, the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris expressed appreciation over the support given to him by the people of Arewa local government.
The governor who was in Arewa for a thank you visit initiated by the state party leadership had approved the rehabilitation of electricity supply to Kangiwa.
“In Sha Allah, within two weeks, you people will start enjoying electricity and I have also approved the construction of a road from Kangiwa to Chibike as well as road from Kangiwa to Ire,” he added.
He then assured the decamped politicians that his administration would give them equal treatment just like old members to pave way for team work, saying: “I want you to work hand-in-hand with each other for the success of the party.”
Responding on behalf of the new members, Ismail Dan Iko expressed satisfaction over the performance of the present administration especially in developmental projects.
“I am a staunch opposition party leader in this local government, but I am satisfied with what this government is doing, His Excellency Comrade Dr Nasir Idris is a man of integrity, transparency and a leader with good mission and vision for the state,” he noted.
