Political officer holders and eminent indigenes of Gbako Local Government Area in Niger State have been called upon to mobilize support and resources toward the redeeming the dilapidated condition of Government Secondary School Lemu situated at the headquarters of the local government.
The outgoing National Chairman of Lemu Old Student Association Mall. Yakubu Garba made the appeal during the forth edition of the annual general meeting of the Association held at the school premises recently
.He lamented that the dilapidated condition of the school, saying, it is high time for indigene to come together and return the old glory of the school as the only boarding school in the entire local government for the benefit of the children in the area and the state at large.
Furthermore, he appeal to the state government under the leadership of Farmer Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to consider the school as one of the benefiting school of the proposed renovation of boarding schools in the state
.In a lecture delivered at the Association General Meeting title Alumni a blessing or a curse, it prospects in educational set up by Dr. Adama Solomon Bake identify networking opportunities, financial support, building of reputation and credibility, career opportunities and knowledge sharing as some of the benefits of Old Students Association
Dr. Bake, who is a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology and a product of the school emphasize that Alumni is very important in all the educational set up in the area of human development and call for commitment and active participation by all members for the sustenance of the school credibility and integrity
.Earlier the principal of the school Idris Mohammed Idi enumerated some of the challenges presently facing the school which include lack of hostel accommodation, shortage of manpower and security, school demarcation and lack of portable drinking water among other needs.
Also speaking the new National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ismaila promised to build on the success recorded since the formation of the Association as well as promotes cluster groups among members for adequate mobilization of all alumni of the school.
He then promised to mobilize resources through goodwill and
support from within and outside the country for the total rehabilitation of the school.
Other elected officers are: Idris Jibrin Vice Chairman, Dr. Adama Solomon Bake Secretary, Mohammed Baba Isah PRO, Mohammed Masin Treasurer, Sani Makama Financial Secretary and Idris Mohammed Idi as Assistant Secretary
The Zonal Coordinators are Yandan Mohammed for zone A, Mustapha Aliyu for Zone B and Idris Jibrin for Zone C.
