The Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman has inaugurated a 13-member Committee on Relief to Families of Victims of Mine Pit Collapse in Galadima-Kogo, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State on Tuesday, 6th August, 2024 in his office.
The Secretary to the Government of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Usman said the committee was approved by the state Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago.
Alhaji Abubakar Usman said the terms of reference of the committee is to identify the victims affected by the mine pit collapse, the dead victims and their next of kin as well as the wounded victims.
He said the committee was to also identify those traumatised in the course of the pit collapsed, those that rendered assistance during the rescue operation and determine the amount and mode of payment to each category.
He said the committee was expected to come up with a report at the end of the exercise, adding that the committee has three weeks to complete its assignment.
He said the governor had directed relevant ministries to profile all miners and their activities at each location, adding that ban on illegal mining was on in the state.
In an interview with newsmen, the Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Abubakar Idris, Permanent Secretary, General Services, said the committee will be transparent in giving out the relief to families of victims of the incident.
The committee members include: Alhaji Abubakar Idris, Permanent Secretary, General Services, Mairo Mann, Permanent Secretary, Humanitarian Affairs and Maryam Ishaq, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice.
Others are Yunusa Nahauni, Permanent Secretary, Mineral Resources, Aisha Nuhu, Permanent Secretary, Information & Strategy, Idris Legbo, Permanent Secretary, Economics Affairs and Salihu Garba, Director, Relief and Rehabilitation in NSEMA.
Also are Adamu Musa, Director, Mines and Mining Environment, representatives of Shiroro council area and Minna Emirate, district head of Galadima-Kogo, community leader and African Minerals and Logistics Limited.
