Following the declaration of a state of emergency in the Minna General Hospital by Governor Umaru Bago, work has fully commenced in phases at the General Hospital, Minna.

Phase One of the project centers on the speedy completion of Wards B, C, and E, structures constructed by the previous administration of Abubakar Sani Bello. While it is being completed by this administration. Currently, Wiring, plumbing, landscaping, and other fittings are being fixed before the equipment is supplied to the wards.

The female surgical and medical wards are also undergoing a complete overhaul, with patients temporarily relocated to the hospital’s Eye Centre, which currently has fewer patients.

Phase Two involves the total reconstruction and renovation of the Administrative and Laboratory sections.

Phase Three includes the demolition and reconstruction of Ward A (Accident Ward), as well as the renovation of the theater and relocation of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) which has commenced too

Contrary to initial skepticism regarding where patients would be moved during the emergency works declared by the Governor, all patients will continue to be treated within the hospital premises. They will only be relocated, as necessary, to completed and fully equipped wards.

Similarly, in the tertiary health sector, the IBB Specialist Hospital is undergoing total remodelling.

Construction of 26 portal cabins with a 63-bed capacity is already at 85% completion. Once finished, patients from the male and female wards will be moved into the cabins to allow for total renovations of the old structures.

The Emergency/Accident Unit, General Outpatients Department, Intensive Care Unit, Doctors’ Call Rooms/Nurses’ Stations, and VIP Units have already been completely renovated and equipped with modern medical facilities such as monitors, ventilators, hospital beds, infusion pumps, and oxygen supply systems. In addition, the installation of solar panels and related accessories is ongoing.

Work is also ongoing on the construction of a Trauma Center.

It could be recalled that the Governor has completed the construction of the Doctors’ Quarters at the General Hospital, Minna.

Indeed, Governor Bago is building a new Niger.
