President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, by one year. His tenure, which was initially set to expire on August 31, 2025, will now run until August 2026.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extension will allow Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms within the service and complete key initiatives of the Tinubu administration, including the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
President Tinubu praised Adeniyi for his steadfast leadership and expressed confidence that the extension would enhance the service’s role in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
