Niger State Government has doled out N250 Million to women cooperatives in Kontagora Local Government Area as empowerment initiative.
Governor Umaru Bago made the donation at a meeting with various women cooperatives in Kontagora Local Government Area.
He described women as home keepers and strong pillars in Nation-building, explaining that the money is to enable the women become self-reliant and employers of labour.
The Governor further stated that beneficiaries will be drawn from women Cooperatives, engaged in small-scale businesses, adding that they will be registered for adequate documentation.
He promised to increase the amount if they make judicious use of the one given to them and then called on women who do not belong to any cooperative to organise themselves and form Cooperatives to be beneficiaries of such support.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Social Investment Programme, Hauwa Mohammed Bako described the initiative of Farmer Governor Umaru Bago as highly impressive.
She said his administration has initiated various women empowerment projects which are already improving the lives of women across the State.
