The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Sani-Sami, has charged chairmanship candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates to execute projects that would have direct bearing to the lives of generality if elected.

The Emir also advised them not to disappoint their people.

He gave the charge on Wednesday when the APC campaign entourage paid a courtesy visit on him in his palace at Zuru in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The Monarch said the call became necessary in view of the fact that LG chairmen were more closer to the people, hence the need for them to execute developmental projects that would impact on people’s lives.

The traditional ruler urged the candidates to remain close to the emirate, assuring that as a father he would be calling them from time-to-time to guide them in order to hasten development of the area.

He recalled that when he was the Military Governor of the then Bauchi State, he used to visit local governments in the state quarterly or bi-annually to inspect projects.

“I used to go to every local government to see what they were doing to their people, inspect projects and give awards to the best three performing chairmen.

“I used to give N5 million to the overall best, N3 million to second best, and N2 million to the one that comes third. This had motivated the chairmen to compete with each other in project execution,” he said.

He advised the candidates to do everything possible to fulfil their campaign promises, “I am appealing to you not to disappoint me nor the people of Zuru Emirate.”

Sani-Sami said His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu has been doing his best in project execution as well as human capital development, hence the need for the incoming chairmen to borrow a leave from him by assisting and empowering the people.

On issue of security, Sani-Sami gave kudos to His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris for restoring peace in Zuru Emirate, which according to him, has paved way for his people to go back to their respective farmlands to cultivate crops.

“We in Zuru, are in the centre of two states affected by banditry, because, we are sharing borders with Niger and Zamfara States. When Nigerian security chase the bandits, they run to Zuru forest for safety.

“However, with the gigantic efforts of our able governor, we are now enjoying peace in our domain. Now we can sleep with our two eyes close unlike before. Therefore, we have to thank His Excellency for that efforts,” he noted.

Earlier, Gov. Nasir Idris told the Emir that they were in his palace to seek royal blessings, advice, and support for peaceful and successful local government elections.

The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Sen. Umar Abubakar-Tafida appreciated the traditional ruler for his fatherly advice and support to the present administration at all levels.

He promised to work hand-in-hand with traditional institutions for the betterment of the state.
